The SPECIALIST

The GENERAL CONTRACTOR (WestCo Contracting, Inc.)

The GENERAL CONTRACTOR (WestCo Contracting, Inc.)

The Specialist: Lets use the comparison if you need to have knee surgery and you go to a Knee Surgeon that only specializes in knees. An expert in knees, but only knees!

  • PROS: They'll probably do an A+ rated job every time because knee surgery is the only thing they do 5 days per week.
  • They probably do the operation much quicker because this is the only type of surgery they do.
  • CONS: You might have to wait a long time to get on their schedule, because being a "Specialist" puts you in high demand.
  • A "Specialist" probably cost more than a General Surgeon, because they have expert knowledge in only this one area.

The GENERAL CONTRACTOR (WestCo Contracting, Inc.)

The GENERAL CONTRACTOR (WestCo Contracting, Inc.)

The General Contractor: Again using the comparison if you need knee surgery, but this time you decide to go to a General Orthopedic Surgeon.  A General Surgeon, might preform operations on knees, hips, shoulders, etc.  They might be very good at any or all these types of surgery's, however, probably not an expert with any one of them.

  • PROS: Going to a "General" can be viewed as a One-Stop-Shop. A General can work on your shoulder one day, and then operate on your knee another day. If you like their work, you might even have them do your ankle surgery too.
  • Knowledge in many areas, and but not an expert at any.
  • You might be able to schedule an appointment sooner with a General.
  • Your costs might be lower with a General.
  • CONS: The General might operate at an Expert level on somethings, but not an expert at many.
  • Quality of work can be great, even the best in some areas. A General does many different things day to day, that quality might not be A+ all the time, in all areas. Again, The Specialist does the same task each and every day. Their work should always be A+.  The General, can do a great job, but I would not expect it to always be at the same level of a Specialist.
