The General Contractor: Again using the comparison of you need knee surgery, but this time you decide to go to a General Orthopedic Surgeon. A General Surgeon, might preform operations on knees, hips, shoulders, etc. They might be very good at any or all these types of surgery's, however, probably not an expert with each of them.
- PROS: Going to a "General" can be viewed as a One-Stop-Shop. A General can work on your shoulder one day, and then operate on your knee another day. If you like their work, you might even have them do your ankle surgery too.
- Knowledge in many areas, and not just one specific topic.
- You might be able to schedule an appointment sooner with a General.
- Your costs might be lower with a General.
- CONS: The General might operate at an Expert level on somethings, but you can not be an expert in everything.
- Quality of work can be great, even the best in some areas. A General does many different things day to day, that quality might not be A+ all the time, in all areas. Again, The Specialist does the same task each and every day. Their work should always be A+. The General, can do a great job, but I would not expect it to always be at the same level of a Specialist.
